What Is Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is a synthetic peptide composed of five amino-acid-related residues and is classified as a growth hormone secretagogue.

It was developed to investigate selective stimulation of growth-hormone release through the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor. Early studies described ipamorelin as having greater selectivity for GH release than several earlier GHRPs in the animal models tested.

Mechanism Overview

Ipamorelin acts as an agonist at the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor, which is also activated by the natural hormone ghrelin.

In a human pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic study, ipamorelin produced an episodic increase in growth hormone, with concentrations later returning toward baseline.

Current Areas of Research

Ipamorelin has been studied in relation to:

  • Growth-hormone release
  • Ghrelin-receptor signaling
  • Pituitary physiology
  • Pharmacokinetics
  • Endocrine selectivity
  • GH-secretagogue biology

Interesting Scientific Facts

  • Ipamorelin is commonly described as a pentapeptide.
  • It acts through a different receptor system than sermorelin and other GHRH analogs.
  • Its human research record is limited compared with established endocrine medicines.
  • Early studies focused heavily on its selectivity and GH-release profile.
